Portraits!

I had the opportunity to donate a portait session to St Phillips School Auction sometime back so I was thrilled to receive a call from Marina saying that she had bid on it, and won!  It was cool that she had been the one who won because she had expressed to me how much she loved her sons school picture that I took a year prior.

I know I say this often but I really cant express to you how much enjoyment I get out of photographing children.  Its just so cool how excited they get when you can connect with them and how amazing the photographs are when you do.  I think Marina said it perfectly, "Some of Anna's and Andreas' pictures are just magical :)"

Here are a few of my favorite images from the shoot:

It means a lot to me that people enjoy my photography.  Below is another email from Marina expressing her experience.

"Danielle,

Thank you so much. You definitively have a nice touch with kids. I was
amazed at how you made them cooperate with you. They enjoyed the session,
so did we. It was a breeze, no stress and pure joy.

You were able to anIt was such a pleasure to meet Marina and her family.

Marina"

Thanks for looking!

Payton

The last time I saw my niece was when she was 4 months old.  It was the first time I had met her and when I held that chubby baby I started to tear up.  It was like all this love just had to come out all at once!
I FINALLY had the opportunity to go back to Alabama in May to see my family.  Now Payton is almost 2 years old and is definitely showing some sassy personality!  And of course, it wasn't until I was leaving that she started to grunt and scream and then said my name for the first time...well, at least her version of my name that sounded a little like something being chewed up. (Dan ye Nel!)   Yup, I teared up again.
Love that sassy lady...  I am hoping that my visits are more frequent so that I am not a total stranger to her every time I go home.  I am already imagining what she will be when she grows up... definitely something where she will be telling people what to do.  Haha!  That, or she will be a cheese connoisseur.  (THAT GIRL LOVES HER SOME CHEESE!)
Till next time!

MOM!

Mom.
Coffee drinking, cigarette smoking, take no shit, bleach blond, Italian and Portuguese BAD ASS.

I guess that just about sums it up!

Happy Mothers Day!

Dark brown, thick wavy hair.  Natural.
In order, my sister, brother and I.  Mom showing off her Farrah Fawcett hair and high cheek bones!
I think this was 4th grade? I won a Mother's Day Brunch for writing about how great my mom is.  (The hair is changing...)
I love this hair so much!  Kind of a poodle mullet only awesome!
This series of pictures is pretty recent.  My mom had been through a lot with a company she had worked for, paving the way for women to be promoted and to work in positions that before her, men were only hired for.  She has built buses, cars, tanks and is now Quality Control Manager over those who build the tanks on her shift.  She also has a horse, two dogs and some chickens.
:o)

Bill Cunningham New York

(picture borrowed from the IFC Website)
I am still blown away…Thursday I met up with Erin for coffee and then we were on our way to the IFC Center to watch the Bill Cunningham Documentary.  (thanks for the recommendation Dana!)

Bill Cunningham is a street photographer who has been documenting the fashion trends in New York for decades.  You get a sense of who Bill is, his love for what he does and the respect others have for him.

What I saw was a person who, without a doubt, sticks to what he believes in.  He just wont do something if  it compromises his self, his beliefs, his intentions for a photograph… I don’t know if we really got 100% of who Bill is but I think people will leave feeling that he is a kind man doing what he loves to do and hasn’t compromised who he is in anyway for it.

You can check out the trailer for the movie here: Bill Cunningham New York

Lucky Kids Launch Party!

I was so excited when I learned that Lucky Magazine put out their first issue of Lucky Kids Magazine.  I bought it and ran home to see if I could “friend” them on Facebook!  (Haha!  I know…DORK!)

When I did the search I found that there was an event happening for the launch of the magazine.  Immediately I began texting, calling and emailing people!  I even called the magazine!  I spoke to a sweet woman, Maureen, who told me that the PR department was out of town until Monday for LA Shops.  I left my information  and asked if it were alright if I called back late Monday afternoon if I hadn’t heard back from them.

Friday went by….the weekend too.  FINALLY MONDAY!  I was so excited to open my email and receive that invitation.!  Aaaand nothing.  11am goes by.  Nothing.  I couldn’t wait any longer.  By 1PM I started emailing everyone in PR and Marketing who was listed in the masthead of the magazine telling them my story and how excited I was.

20 minutes later I started to get replies!  I was on the list and attached was my invitation! (YAY!)

Here was my email to them:

Hi _________,

I was extremely excited to discover Lucky Kids Magazine in the magazine store last week!  The guy at the register asked if I was ok when I gasped "No Way!" and then, "I need that!"

I am in NY for a few more weeks from San Francisco and would love the opportunity to attend the Lucky Kids Magazine Launch party this Wednesday at the Stella McCartney boutique.  Is this something I may just show up to or do I need to be on a list?

I specialize in photographing children and, as you can image, I am beside myself excited about the kids version of Lucky

Hope you had a great weekend and thank you for your time.

I was happy that the weather remained somewhat decent enough so that I could wear the dress I wanted to wear and knew was PERFECT for the event.  (dress from www.daniellethedressmaker.com  Yeah, her name is Danielle too!)
I walked in a little after 6 and immediately heard the buzz of excited children!  Making my way through the room I received a few compliments on my dress, had a glass of Champaign in my hand and was offered to sign up for a raffle.   There were juicy juice boxes for the kids, face painting, balloon animals and huge lollipops!  There was even a photobooth set up in the back for the parents and kids to enjoy!
Well dressed moms and dads sat along side the long kids table playing with their kids.  Activities like stickers, play doh, playful animal masks and coloring kept the kids happy and engaged!
It was cute to see the excitement on everyone’s faces.  The new spring line was out and people were buying!  It was cute to see one little girl so happy walking out of the Stella McCartney Boutique with her face painted, her new flower rain coat and her balloon animal.  No doubt the children who attended this event slept well that night.
Thank you, Lucky Magazine, for having me at your event!  Good times!

Thanks for reading!
