Count Down to NY Begins!

My trip to New York is coming up pretty quick!  Everything seems to be falling into place and I was able to find a great place in Williamsburg where I will be living for the month of April.

Finding a place wasn't as quick and easy as I had though it would be. I first searched and searched Craigslist but after not hearing back from most people and the one person I did hear back from ended up being a scam I had a bit of a bad taste in my mouth about this whole process.  At least I didn't loose money on the situation.

Onward!  I checked out countless websites, posted on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and emailed everyone I knew.  The results... AMAZING!  Thank you all for passing my info on to your friends and family.  I received so many emails that gave me options in price and neighborhood until there was one that fully fit my budget and needs.

I found my place on something that wasn't even a website.  It was an email forwarded on to me by a friend.  A woman named Stephanie Diamond started an email called the Listings Project.  In 2003 Stephanie was in graduate school looking for a place to live close to campus. She emailed everyone in her personal email list to inquire about apartments for rent within the arts community and found a place.  Well, the emails continued to pour in and she couldn’t resist sharing what was available.  Check out her story here: Listing Project

Other great websites passed on to me that proved to have great options, pictures and were reputable include: airbnb.com, nyhabitat.com, and nycityliving.com.  I hope this helps you when you make your trip out to NY!

The count down has begun!  New York...here I come!

My First Video!

I am excited to share with you my very first video!  (you can view here: www.daniellehallimages.com or watch at the end of this blog) I had the opportunity to team up with Jack C. Perry from LA to create a fun video of kids on their way to a surprise birthday party.  It is fun and was pretty exciting to make!
There were a lot of people involved in helping out with the production of this video.  Ali Cohen pulled wardrobe and Renee Rael did hair and make-up. All talent were from JE Model Management.  (Thank you Shannon and Kat for helping out with casting!)  Great kid’s and parent’s.
It was a long day and we were very ambitious with the amount of shots we put together to create the story.  It was interesting to see how everything unfolded and the similarities as well as the differences in the thought process of creating a moving picture compared to a still.
You might think we shot the elements in the order you see in the video.  Quite the opposite.  Everything was scheduled according to where the location was and the time of day best to shoot.  This helped us order our shot list.  (just like a still shoot)

Once we had the order of our shot list we were then able to schedule each of the kids while taking into consideration the distance each had to travel.

At one point we had all 9 kids at one time!  This was the actual birthday scene.  It was great watching them get so into it…but I think cake makes everyone happy.  They even got excited about the fake presents!  :o)
I have been trying to think of one really great moment from the shoot but there were quite a few of them.  The BESTEST would have to be seeing how much fun all the kids had.  They all came in a little nervous and not really knowing what to expect but left with great big smiles, some cool props and wardrobe.
Cant wait to do another one!  Thank you all for your support.  Guys…WE ROCKED IT!

And here it is!

TONIGHT! Open Show!

Wow!  I just got home from presenting some work at this months Open Show event hosted at SF CAMERAWORK.  I have to say I am on a little bit of a high from the event!  There was such a great turn out and I had the opportunity to see some really great work and meet some new people.

I had never been to or had submitted work to Open Show prior to this showing so I really didn't know what to expect.  Tonight there were 5 presenters including myself.  (Jennifer Emering, Keelan Sunglao, Curt Demafeliz and Andrei Riskin).  The event was educational and a great opportunity to show some work from a project I did about 2 years ago.
I had a few reasons to do this event.  One is because I will be in New York for the entire month of April showing my portfolio to potential clients and having the very same conversations with them as I did with the audience tonight.  Great practice!

The second was to show images from a shoot that you wouldn't be able to see by going to my website or blog.  The website/blog images are ultra edited down from my shoots making sure there is diversity and cutting out the repetition of too many similar images.

Viewing each of the presentations before me I quickly realized that my work was not going to fall into the same category as the rest.  I was going to be the only person to show work that was more on the commercial side.  It was produced.  It was styled.  Though, in the future, I would like to see more of a variety of types of work at the event, I really enjoyed the feed back and being able to talk to the audience.  I encourage anyone who would like to show their work to submit!  (Submit Here: Open Space)

Overall, a great event and I am so glad I was chosen to be a part of it.  Thank you all for coming out to support.  I know I have already told you a million times over, but I really appreciate you!

Thank you!

Open Show

Hello!

I have been chosen to participate in this months Open Show and would love to see your smiling face.  My images will be projected and I will be there to talk about my work and answer questions.

The body of work I am showing is from a series of images I call Mystic Camp Out.  You have see a few of the images on my website.  Often times I do a shoot and have to edit down quite a bit.  Only show a very select few... and the rest are hardly seen by anyone.  This is the perfect opportunity to share a few more of the images from this series.

Thank you for your interest in my work!  I hope to see you tomorrow night.  Oh!  This IS a kid friendly event and is FREE!  The sponsers of the event welcome you to bring food if you would like as well.
