Sick, not Sick!

Sorry for being MIA.  I just got done working 18 days in a row and am pretty worn out!  At first I thought I caught a cold but turns out I am just super allergic to the plants I brought home a week ago from a shoot.  Coughing, sneezing, super red puffy eye!
Of course, I only made this realization yesterday when my boyfriend suggested I take a Zertec.  I feel like a brand new person!  Needless to say I got rid of the plants and today doing some chores to try and get this allergen out of the house!

The 18 day stint started on the 8th with 4 days retouching for Jim Hildreth for William Sonoma.  I really love working this crew.  We are so efficient with our work flow that the amount of products we shoot in a day would be considered crazy!  I think a lot of it has to do with Dynamo Donut Friday.  Donuts make everyone happy!  Well, that and it doesn't hurt to be working with such great people.
Next,  I did a portrait session for Katherine Katz.  1 year!  LOVE photographing kids.  When I arrived she had just woken up from a nap.  She stared at me curiously as I unpacked my equipment.  A few squealy noises from dad, mom and me and we were ready to rock and roll!  I think I may have a new new BFF!  More pics to come.  :o)

Next was my own photo/video shoot here in SF where my friend, Jack Perry, videographer from LA flew up so we could work together.  Allie Cohen pulled wardrobe, Renee Rael did hair and make-up and all 9 kids were from JE Talent.  Images and footage to come!
Then, it was right into another photo/video job helping Jennifer Bullock produce for photographer Jim Hughes.  3 days of pre-pro including tech scouting in Milpitas and Antioch continued by 4 shoot days.  Such a great team to work with.  It was wonderful to work with a client like Lilly Elonco because it was one of those jobs where the ad was going to help people.  Wish I could say more!
After that, I went right into a 5 day job with Brandon McGanty for West Elm.  I was Digital Teching, Retouching, and creating layouts in InDesign.  Images to be in the upcoming catalog.  There were so many hands to help us out on this one that things moved seamlessly.  Sets were being built, shot and taken down.  Rooms changed quickly from blue to brown in seconds! Catered breakfast, lunch and working with another great team made up for how cold it was working in the warehouse.  Thank goodness for puffy jackets!
All in all a great 18 days.  Finally caught up on some sleep and here I am again, back at it!  The count down has begun to my New York Adventure in April.  Lost to do before then.

Taco Truck Tuesday!

Out on a tech scout today and met some wonderful ladies who run the taco truck outside of One Workplace. More than just tacos!  Sooooo good!

Long day with lots of driving.  I can tell I will be wanting a good foot rub and sleep when I get home.

Stefano Azario

I am sitting here smacking my chops on a peanut butter sandwich thinking it would be nice to have a soy latte right now, but mostly, I am thinking of the people and conversations I had last month about my work… and gosh darn!  There are quite a few people that believe in me and my children’s photography!

Just saying this to say, thank you.  Your support has been tremendous.

For the few of you who know, I did hear back from Ray DiPietro who is handling the GAP Kids Account.  Very nice email conversation and I would very much like to meet him one day.  He was nice and direct, filling me in with some information and saying that for now they are happy with Stefano Azario who has has been shooting for GAP for some time now.  (Since 1996!)

Confidant in my work and the fact that they will want some new blood in there sooner or later I will be reminding him every so often of my existence.  :o)

After finding out who the photographer was I immediately looked this guy up!  Stefano Azario!  Wow!  I love your work and would love to meet you as well!

It is inspiring to me to see someone else showing only kid work.  I enjoyed looking through the section named “in bed with family”.  I felt like he was allowing me a small glimpse into his life seeing lovely yet personal pictures of his beautiful family.

Its seemed that most of the work shown on his site was from ads he had shot and I have to say,  I LOVED going through every page and every image… but I do get excited and inspired when I see really nice photography of children.

Man.  Where he is now is where I am headed!  I like it.

January 2011

Oye!  I haven’t blogged in a while!  Hi!  Let me reintroduce myself.  My name is Danielle Hall and I photograph kids. Good times!

Its only February 1rst and I feel like the whole year is pretty much planned out for me.  Have you ever felt that way?  January was filled with retouching projects, friends having babies, LOTS of emails and the birth of a photo/video concept.

By months end, retouching clients are happy, I have more kids in my pool to photograph, I have heard back from all emails and the photo/video project is underway to shoot mid February!

Exciting!

Somewhere in between there I managed to see True Grit, get my hair cut, make meatloaf for the first time in….YEARS!  Go to an Intro to Voice Over class and celebrated my boyfriend (just because) by going to House of Prime Rib (YUM!) for what I called Tony Appreciation Day!  What better way to celebrate someone than to stuff your face with steak!

Feb is shaping up to be quite busy as well with 3 weeks of  work booked, food trip to LA and shooting the photo/video project.  MAN!  I am hoping to finish my taxes this month as well. Uh, we’ll see…

How was your first month of 2011?

Thanks for looking!
