Who did you meet today?

It never ceases to amaze me how when you are following the right track, life is so much easier and when you do something that is against the grain or natures plan, how hard life can be...

Last week was a great week!  I have been inspired and the creative block has been removed.  And about time too!  I think it started with an email I received from a friend I have been out of contact with for quite some time.  The content of her email made me smile and I am so happy to hear that she is doing well.

Next, after a year of trying to meet up with this particular wardrobe stylist, Ebony Haight, we finally had the opportunity to meet for breakfast.  We totally clicked and what was suppose to be just a meet and greet turned out to be a full on idea fest!  We came up with 6 concepts to be shot over the next couple of months (2.5...ambititous I know!!!)  and we are already shooting the first idea this Friday the 12th!

In prop shopping for this shoot I randomly met the former Marketing Director of Macy's and then in the same day, met a guy whose friend is an Art Director for GAP.  (WHAT!?!?!)  He also has a friend who designs children clothing from Japan and loves to shoot in the Napa area. Then, I randomly met this other guy at Home Depot who needs some interior shots done and we will be discussing that next week.  (you can see my interior and architecture work at www.daniellehall.net/arch)

You never know who you will meet when or where!

Note to self and others:
1. Always look your best.
2. Be nice to everyone.
3. Talk to everyone.
4. Think, "How can I help this person?" NOT, "How can this person help me?"
5. Carry more business cards then you think you need.  (haha!)
6. Always wear a smile.
7. Hold the door/elevator open.
8. Give up your seat.
9. Breakfast is important...eat up!
10. Stay connected.
11. Be ready!

I am so excited for the weeks ahead!  Thanks for reading!

Meet Helena!

Helena, only 5 years old, is HILARIOUS!  Love, love, LOVED photographing her.  Cant tell you how much fun we had jumping, skipping, and yelling!  (Yelling you ask?  Yea, you know...just because!)

Here are some of my favorites from her headshot shoot which will be going on her Zed Card as well.  And yes, her eyes really are that blue!

Chicago!

Went to Chicago 2 weekends ago.  First of all... Chicago : GOOD TIMES!

When Eugene and I had first booked our tickets we were on a mission to see, and for me, to meet some of his family who lived out there.  Well, plans changed last minute and we ended up with a pair of tickets we couldn't refund or exchange for any reasonable rate so we decided to make it a mini vacation and stay with a friend of mine, Alex.

Ohhh Alex!  Thanks to Alex the trip out was not only the VA-KAY Eug and I needed but his idea for an impromptu bbq with 15-20 or so closest friends led me to meet a few hilarious Art Directors and Copywriters!

Overall, great and unintentional productive weekend!  Below are some pics of us being a tourist in the Windy City!  Gotta love it!

The Start of something?

So...today I went to Bernal Heights to check out Holly Park.

Went this morning on a whim.  Brian, a friend of mine, had told me about this park and that it may fit some of the projects I plan on doing.  I must have walked around the park 3 or 4 times!  I walked every trail, checked out the play ground (NICE!) and then walked around the entire park on the side walk.  I swear...I was the only person there without a dog or baby!  Haha!

Bernal Heights is such a cute neighborhood.  Today the weather was beautiful and warm enough to accommodate my flip flops and t-shirt.  I was so relaxed when I was done.  Going must have jived up those creative juices because now the ideas are just pouring out into my notbook!

YAY!

Getting the Creative Juices Flowing!!!

Looking for things/ways to get the creative juices flowing.  THAT! and things to stay motivated in this down economy.  I know, I know...everyone is sick of hearing about the economy.  Ha! But I cant help but think that this is all a blessing in disguise.  Or at least that's what I am telling myself!

I think its true though.  =o)

A while ago I got cut off from what I called a SWEET bread and butter gig because they needed to show their stock holders that they were being conservative with the advertising budget.  I understood but darn it!  That stung a bit.  Good thing I didn't have all my eggs in one basket. But I have to say it was definitely a big ole push out of my comfort zone and to REALLY start marketing myself.

Thanks to some really amazing mentors, uh I mean friends! (They don't really want to be called mentors-haha!)  I have received some amazing feedback out my work and the validation I was looking for to push my new marketing campaign.

Ive already had a few meetings with some agencies in SF and am working on having a show to display my Children's Photography.  (Cross fingers and toes that it all pans out!)

Speaking of motivators...and getting the creative juices flowing , lets go back to the beginning of this post before I set off on this tangent!  I was going through HOW Magazine at Borders the other day and was reading about Stephan G. Bucher with his "Monster a Day" illustrations (www.dailymonster.com) and Noah Scalin with his www.skulladay.blogspot.com .   Intrigued I am!  No I am trying to come up with a concept that fits me.

Hmm...any ideas? =o)
